Carbrook State School Case Study

Project Background

As part of the Federal Government’s BER program, Carbrook State School set out to construct a large hall for school assemblies, community functions and general teaching.

Naturally, the hall required an AV fitout to ensure the latest technology can be utilised for presentations and assemblies.

Since 1877, Carbrook SS has endeavoured to instil the importance of learning excellence as well as strong partnerships with family and the surrounding community.

With the need to cater for the community in mind, Carbrook State School chose Videopro to provide a fully-functional and easy-to-use system that could be operated by a person with little to no training or experience with AV technology.

Due to the fact that the hall was constructed as part of the BER program, one of the stipulations is that the area must be available for use by the wider community.

With a diverse number of groups potentially using the same system with little training, Account Manager Dan Macready wanted to design the system to ensure it was fail-safe and incredibly simple to use.

The AV system included an AMX wall controller whereby the projector would power up and projection screen would unfurl automatically from the ceiling with the push of a button.

Additionally, the wireless microphone can be operated using the same system which allows for volume control from the same control point.

Upon completion of the training room installations, VIDEOPRO conducted professional training for the staff to learn how to best utilise their new interactive whiteboards and technology.

A major component of the AV system is the Digital Sound Processor or DSP as it is commonly known. The DSP allows the system to work on an auto-pilot function where it is automatically programmed to set the volume level for the speaker whether they have a soft or booming voice.

The system limits the volume from being turned up too loud in order to reduce reverberation in the hall. Videopro chose to program the DSP to ensure maximum gain from the microphone meaning that feedback levels are dramatically reduced.

Graham Dunster from Carbrook State School summarised the project, “Thank you Videopro – most professional outfit and a pleasure to do business with.”

Videopro managed the client’s timeframes and completed the project within the allocated budget meaning the Carbrook State School installation can be considered a tremendous success for the team.
