Queensland Audit Office - Case Study

Queensland Audit Office

Project Background

For 150 years, the Audit-General’s Office has monitored Queensland public sector organisations, and assisted them to enhance their efficiency and work practices.

Queensland Audit Office (QAO) is now one of the largest audit offices in Australia, and this strong base of experience enables QAO to ensure its vision of providing excellence in enhancing public sector accountability now and into the future.

When the Queensland Audit Office relocated from Queen Street to their new premises in Albert Street, the decision to bring the office up-to-date and install state-of-the-art audio visual facilities was to make provide the best working conditions for all staff.

Initially, the QAO was looking at the traditional projector and screen concept, but through meetings with key stakeholders (users of the facilities) it was decided to expand on this and look towards interactive technology with touch screen control.

From these discussions and viewing the facilities in the Videopro Business Centre board room and conference room, it was agreed to use the new Hitachi 88” Widescreen Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) with the corresponding short throw Hitachi data projector. The QAO decided on this new sized board because of it’s advanced finger-touch technology, widescreen and better viewing capabilities and Hitachi Short Throw projection technology.

Sitting less than a metre from the IWB, the Hitachi short throw projector allows meetings and training to take place without presenters being distracted by the light of the projection, and people in the room can view the presentation without the presenter casting a shadow on the board.

Four of the 88” IWBs were installed in the QAO office, including the installation of two IWBs in one of the larger meeting rooms where an operable wall is used to divide the room into two fully functional independent rooms when required.

An effective presentation and training space also requires optimal audio facilities; Videopro Business Centre took this into account and installed Digital Sound systems and In-Ceiling speakers guaranteeing clear audibility from any point in the room without hindering the overall aesthetics of the space.

To ensure ease of use and full automation, AMX control systems were installed offering a one-touch solution to effectively manage all audio visual resources within the meeting and training room spaces. The AMX wall mounted touch panels control all electronics within the space including data projection, lighting, the digital sound system, and installed ceiling speakers for seamless presentations.

The installation of the 88” IWBs were the first to be conducted in Queensland, and it is great to see not only the installation of the boards, but the entire finished project receive such a positive response from QAO:

“This has been a great outcome for the QAO. Ken Hawkins (Videopro Business Centre Account Manager) was excellent in assisting with suggestions to meet user requirements, and thanks to David Ward (Videopro Business Centre Project Manager) for a quality installation. Fantastic result” – Ross Schamburg, Director of IT, Queensland Audit Office
