A Flexible Performing Arts Centre Where Learning Meets Performance
Kedron State High School’s new Performing Arts Centre is a purpose-built venue designed to support a diverse range of activities, from performances and events to teaching, rehearsals and collaborative learning.
The school needed a professional-grade AV solution that could deliver exceptional audio, video and control while remaining simple enough for staff to operate every day. Equally important was ensuring students had access to the same professional equipment and workflows used across the performing arts industry.
Videopro was engaged as the AV integrator to bring the consultant-designed solution to life, working closely with Kane Constructions and ITE to deliver the project.
A Complete AV Solution for a Multi-Purpose Venue
The Performing Arts Centre was designed as a highly flexible environment, with the main hall capable of being divided into multiple areas to support different teaching and learning activities.
Key project requirements included:

A Comprehensive Integrated AV Solution
Videopro delivered the AV integration across the Performing Arts Centre, uniting the venue’s audio, video and control systems into a cohesive environment.
Flexible Spaces for Teaching and Performance
The Performing Arts Centre can be divided into five sections – the foyer, the stage and three separate learning areas within the main hall.
Each space features dedicated touch panel control, giving staff the ability to manage the technology independently and configure the environment to suit different activities.
This flexibility allows the centre to transition between teaching, rehearsal, performance and event modes.
Professional Audio and Video
The centre features five Epson projectors, providing visual coverage across the venue. Two projectors are positioned at the front of the space on either side of the stage, another projects onto a large motorised screen in the middle of the main hall, a fourth projects onto the large cyclorama wall on the stage and the fifth projector is positioned at the back of the main hall and projects onto the operable wall.
With Q-SYS DSP supporting audio processing and distribution, a professional audio system using dB Technologies was installed to provide audio reinforcement throughout the main hall. In addition to the main hall audio system, JBL audio was used throughout the facility to provide coverage in the surrounding areas.
The intuitive Crestron control system enables seamless operation across all areas of the facility, with a user-friendly interface that makes it simple for staff and students to use.
Performance Relay Throughout the Building
The AV solution extends beyond the main performance space.
Audio and video relay systems distribute performance content to the dressing rooms, back-of-house classrooms and other areas throughout the facility enabling the venue to be used for large performances. A dedicated speaker system also provides audio from performances or the control room across the building.
This ensures students, staff and performers can stay connected to what is happening on stage, regardless of where they are within the facility.
Motorised Lighting Bars
Eight lighting bars were installed, including five motorised bars that can be lowered to ground level for easier access when installing fixtures.
Designed for Easy, Everyday Operation
A key focus for the project was making professional AV technology accessible to school staff and students. While the centre incorporates sophisticated audio, video and control systems, each space can be operated through intuitive, easy-to-use wall-mounted touch panels.
The result is a venue that combines professional capability with everyday usability, giving the school the flexibility to use the space across a wide range of activities.
Bringing the Design to Life
The AV solution was designed by an external consultant, with Videopro responsible for integrating and delivering the technology in line with the overall design vision.
The project involved extensive coordination between the construction, stage machinery, AV and installation teams.
Approximately 16 kilometres of cable were installed throughout the building, with 70 AV connection points distributed across the venue and back-of-house areas providing flexible performance connectivity to the system.
