Whether you use them to listen to music or talk on the phone, headphones have become an essential part of our everyday lives. We’ve got all the big brands of in-ear, over-ear and on-ear wireless and wired headphones, which means great value, the latest technology, and quality you can trust.
Headphones and Earphones
Headphones usually refer to on-ear (that sit on your ears) and over-ear (that sit over your ears) models. Earphones refer to in-ear (that sit inside your ear canal) and earbuds (that sit just inside your ear) models. These four types serve different purposes so it’s important to find the right ones for you.
In-ear and earbuds are extremely compact and portable compared to headphones. Headphones can be considered more comfortable than earphones but that varies between models. Amazing sound quality can be achieved across both types; it’s just about finding the right fit for you!
Wireless Bluetooth Connectivity
Bluetooth is by the far the most common wireless headphone technology. It allows devices to connect wirelessly through a small computer chip that uses its own channel via radio waves. This means you can effortlessly pair with headphones with your device and avoid the hassle of cords. Sound quality is still amazing whether you’re corded or not, however your Bluetooth headphones will require charging. Corded headphones use the devices’ power, whereas wireless headphones run off their own battery and will need to be charged to order to pair with your device.
True wireless headphones use Bluetooth technology to connect and pair to your device. What makes them True wireless is that the earphones themselves aren’t connected to one another by a cord or wire. The microphone, battery and controls are built into the earbuds themselves.
Active Noise Cancelling (ACN)
Aside from the natural noise rejection you can get with in-ear and over-ear headphones, active noise control technology reduces unwanted ambient sounds. Noise cancelling headphones have a small built-in engine that measures the lower frequencies of your surroundings and creates an equal and opposite frequency that will cancel that sound out. Instead of raising the volume excessively to mask your noisy environment, which isn’t a great long-term solution as it will damage your ears over time, consider using Active Noise Cancelling headphones for an immersive and safe listening experience.
Do you need a little more from your headphones? It’s important to us that everyone is taken care of. We have everything from full-fidelity headphones with a built-in hearing test, through to Google Assistant enabled headphones. Voice assistant headphones make life that bit easier; ask it to play your favourite music, make calls, check the weather, get reminders about appointments, birthdays and more.
Both Google and Alexa voice assistants are available in a number of different headphones. The voice assistant runs natively and won’t trigger the assistant on your phone, giving you a faster experience with some extra perks. If you’re someone who’s frequently on-the-go, assistant enabled headphones could be the right fit for you!
Need a little extra help? We can measure your hearing and tailor your sound, with Audeara. Enhance music, entertainment and communication by focusing on what you can really hear. Seeing first-hand the impact of hearing loss and the significant wait times in the public health system - they wanted to make medical-grade audiograms more accessible. The headphones use a software interface from a smartphone application to send Bluetooth commands to the onboard printed circuit board (PCB). This allows the headphones themselves to generate tones and maintain consistency across Bluetooth devices. The headphones are calibrated and the profile is used as the baseline for accurate audiogram testing.
After the user performs the audiogram, a modulation table is applied which adjusts all incoming musical signals to the user’s requirements. Meaning the sound is tailored to them. Best of all, this personalisation is stored within the headphones firmware - meaning the tailoring is applied to any sound from any device paired with the A-01s. With 35 to 65 hours of battery life, Audeara unites high quality audio features like active noise cancelling, Bluetooth, hands free calling and more with their personalisation feature. Which not only creates your perfect sound, but also ensures the user is caring for their hearing health. Gone are the days of one-sound-fits-all!
